Liverpool forced to accept defeat. Playing without two of their key players Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, Rafael Benitez's squad crushed even Darren Bent scored in a single 5-minute first half.
This victory practically makes Black Cats moved up one rank, from the order of eight to seven, while displacing the position of Liverpool.
Steve Bruce team was fairly excited. Armed with the success of Team Red Devils held at Old Trafford, Lorik Cana et al appear confident to play with army led Jamie Carragher.
Darrent Bent and Andy Reid actually opened up opportunities in the two-minute fight rolling. But Bent was successful through the goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
Liverpool got a number of opportunities created by Martin Skrtel and Ryan Babel. However, without escort Torres and Gerrard, they seem to fight harder through Sunderland attack.
Unfortunately, until the whistle is blown the second round the referee, no additional goals scored from both sides. Sunderland won 1-0 cage fight over Liverpool.
