Burnley 3-1 Sunderland: Nugent double
on Saturday, September 19, 2009
A superb double from on-loan attacker David Nugent maintained Burnley's impressive form at Turf Moor as they swept aside Sunderland 3-1.
Nugent, currently on-loan with Owen Coyle's side from Portsmouth, produced two moments of real quality to ensure Burnley became the first promoted club since 1992 to win their first three home games in the Premier League.
Burnley regained the initiative shortly after the hour mark when on-loan striker David Nugent came off the bench to grab his first goal for the club in only his second appearance since joining from Portsmouth.
After a fantastic cross from Elliott, 24-year-old Nugent rose above Michael Turner to power a header past Craig Gordon who was left with no chance in the Sunderland goal.
In the end it was Burnley who finished the stronger and Nugent effectively put the game to bed with a terrific third for the home side after 85 minutes.
